JK Rowling is a transexclusionary radical feminist (terf) or at least is sympathetic to their beliefs. This has long been suspected but in a tweet today she confirmed everyone’s suspicion.
Rowling tweeted support for Maya Forester, a British woman who was fired from her job over tweets in support of gender critical ideology. In the tweets she used offensive and exclusionary language, saying “men cannot change into women”. Her legal dispute against her former employer was seen as a test on whether a “gender-critical” view — that there are only two biological sexes — was a protected philosophical belief under the 2010 Equality Act.
Ruling against Forstater’s claim, the judge in the case said in his ruling that:
“If a person has transitioned from male to female and has a Gender Recognition Certificate (GRC), that person is legally a woman. That is not something Ms Forstater is entitled to ignore. Ms Forstater’s position is that even if a trans woman has a GRC, she cannot honestly describe herself as a woman. That belief is not worthy of respect in a democratic society.”
This is what Rowling had to say along with tweeting support for the hashtag #IStandWithMaya:
This is a common argument of the gender critical crowd. However, every time it comes up it’s always in relation to trans women. This whole argument is about trans women and what it means to be a woman. In coming out of support of Maya Forstater, JK Rowling is supporting invalidating a person’s identity in a way that should never be supported in a fair and free society.
Gender critical and trans exclusionary feminists always argue that women should be able to dress how they want, and that gender is a construct, sex is immutable, science is real. Yet, these arguments only come up in regards to trans women taking any sort of place in society. Could it be that their opposition to trans women isn’t based on a philosophy but rather internalized misogyny?
I mean I personally think so but let’s dive deeper, shall we?
Who are the two groups that value people for giving birth above all else? Terfs and misogynists.
There are many different roads to womanhood and most are full of hatred in some form. Our society is built partially on this. However, both terfs and misogynists reduce the arguments down to just genitals. Every time. Even when the science doesn’t back it up, and in this case the law didn’t back it up.
As the old saying goes, we criticize others for what we hate about ourselves. In this case I think it’s pretty clear that JK and these other people have internalized hatred about being women and are taking it out on transwomen while calling themselves feminists. It makes me sad to see it come out in this way but until we heal the part of society that hates women and all the damage it’s caused this will probably continue to happen.
